It’s not easy living in a world where most commercial things and even some close people in your life want you to be asleep. The norm is to drink it away. Sex it away. Use money to take it away. Use people to take it away. Drug it away. Eat it away.
What is the “it”? REALITY. It’s not easy to live in REALITY while being awake.
Discouragement is something that most of us have experienced about something or another. So what does one do when one is feeling discouraged? My four step prescription is as follows:
Prayer and Meditation: Praying about the situation including your thoughts about it is an important step. Prayer can help you to slow down and refocus your attention. Meditation is about listening not shutting down. Prayer and meditation can provide clarity and truth.
Talk About It: Talking about things out loud with someone you respect and trust can be very helpful. Sometimes hearing your own voice and running through the situation adds more light and clarity. Friends can offer help in terms of support.
Re-Focus: Focus on what is true about you and about the situation. Sometimes we get carried away with the fantasy about things in our own head instead of looking at the reality of things. We can benefit from remembering what is true about ourselves and our ability to achieve things.
Taking Action: Sometimes the best action is no action until you have clarity. When it’s time take action. Practice positive self talk and other right actions given the evidence before you about the situation or problem. You do the best you can.
I hope you have found this to be helpful. If you have any questions, I invite you to ask them. I invite you to also comment.
